Negociando en NYC

English in the bottom

-¿Perdone?
-¿No estarás tullido?
-¡No!
-No, vete tú.

It was my third trip to NYC. I had been in meeting a contact I can not say the name, and soon you will understand why. I had been recommended by Allison, the director of photography museum purchases of NY. Allison had interviewed me a year before, in the sessions organized in Spainon the prize PhotoE discoveries. He liked the material and kept the flow.

So I arrived at the apartment of the guru and show him the dossier.

‘Pity-languid said after a brief review.

– Excuse me?

– You’re not crippled?

– No! Well, Should I?

-Of course. Look, Americans have never been too jealous with outside talent.

– I thought you have a Czechoslovak origin?

-Romanian Birth, can I go to the point?-he doesn´t liked my note.

-oh yes, yes, continue, continue please

-we are full of people like you. You’re not bad at all but you have nothing particular. You Need some marketing. I will speak clearly guy.-He puts on his cowboy hat made in China.-we could do great things for you if you miss a hand, left or right, I do not care.

I need my hands to use the camera- I said coldly. From the first moment I knew that this man was serious talking but I was not willing to cut a hand.

-You can use the automatic mode

-Yes but without hands I can´t use the zoom, the…

-Ok, what about a foot?

– And how would walk and move…?

-There are prosthesis- That made me hesitate a moment

– And what I would get in return?

-Someone like you, with a decent work and a physical defect, could aspire to great things.

– How large?

– MOMA? – MOMA Fuck! The MOMA is a very big thing

– Permanent or temporary exhibition?

-That depends, how high you will cut your leg?

-For the ankle

– Temporary

– And to be permanent?

-By the groin

– Oh man, there are no prosthesis for a cut so tight!

-It’s your decision- I thought a few seconds before answering.

– What do you give me for nails, hair and shit artist?

-Fuck off, mother fucker

-No, fuck you.
